What is Roundup?

Roundup is a herbicide, or weed killer produced by the biotech giant Monsanto (recently acquired by Bayer) that is popularly used worlwide.

This weed killer has been on the market since the 1970s and is commonly used in agriculture. It is also used by the forestry industry, cities and private homeowners.

Over the past several years, thousands of people have filed lawsuits claiming that the product’s active ingredient, glyphosate, can cause several types of life-threatening cancers, including non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma (NHL).

Effects of exposure to Roundup

Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma

The 2015, study conducted by the World Health Organization (WHO) declared glyphosate as “probably carcinogenic to humans”. The simple conclusion derived from this study was that glyphosate has the potential to cause cancer. Glyphosate, one of the core ingredients of Roundup, is specifically alleged to cause Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, a cancer that originates in your lymphatic system which is the disease-fighting network spread throughout your body.

Gluten Sensitivity & Celiac Disease

There are hundreds of different kinds of microorganisms in your gut, most of which are bacteria. Several of them are friendly bacteria, and are incredibly important for your health. Roundup may negatively affect these useful bacteria. Studies conducted on animals have shown that glyphosate is known to disrupt beneficial gut bacteria. But contrary to the same, harmful bacteria seemed to be highly resistant to glyphosate. One particular article that received a lot of attention on the internet even hypothesized that the glyphosate in Roundup is to blame for the increase in gluten sensitivity and celiac disease worldwide.

Other Health Complications

It is alleged that the components in Roundup may also lead to: Collagen and Chronic Pain, Microbiome Dysbiosis, Food Allergies, Gut Peristalsis and Impaired Detox and Digestion.
